Charles Crampton Obituary

Charles A. Crampton

November 30, 1936 - September 19, 2024

Charles A. Crampton, age 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, surrounded by family at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., October 11, 2025, at the First Congregational Church, 2201 Seventh Avenue, Moline, Ill. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service. There will be a reception in the fellowship hall following the services.

Charlie was born on November 30, 1936, in Moline and attended Moline High School, Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, Denison University in Ohio, and the University of Michigan Law School. Charlie served in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps from 1962 to 1965. After a subsequent career as a lawyer for the local power company, Charlie retired and poured his heart and soul into The Project of the Quad Cities, assisting over 140 AIDS patients from 1986-2011.

Charlie is survived by his nieces and nephews from the Rosene/Foy, Wolny, and Crampton families, their children and grandchildren; and his many dear friends and neighbors.

Charlie enjoyed caring for his many dogs, maintaining his river front property, watching the river roll by, and visiting his dear friends and neighbors up and down the river valley (you know who you are). Despite living a somewhat solitary life, Charlie loved and was loved by all who knew him. Charlie also generously donated to the many charities close to his heart.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Albert M. Crampton and Josephine (von Maur) Crampton; his siblings, Trudy (nee Crampton, nee Rosene) Foy, Kit (nee Crampton) Wolny, Bud Crampton; and his beloved dogs, too many to mention.

The friends and family of Charlie give a special message of thanks and gratitude to the caring staff of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, where Charlie may well have spent the best three months of his recent life; you are all amazing!

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the following: The Project of the Quad Cities, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Special Olympics, Leader Dogs for the Blind, River Bend Food Bank.
