MOLINE-Major Charles R. Harper, USAF (Ret), 90, of Moline, made his final flight when he departed on Monday, July 25, 2022, from Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2022, (Charles' birthday) at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 1:45 p.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Charles Robert Harper was born September 1, 1931, near Powersville, Missouri, the son of Charles I. and Nelle L. (Putnam) Harper. He graduated from Powersville High School in 1949. From 1950 to 1972, he served in the US Navy during the Korean War and the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He completed flight training in January, 1957, and attained the rank of Major prior to leaving the military.

He married Shirley Ask Scott on November 9, 1976, and they made their home in Davenport, Iowa, where he was employed as airport manager of the Davenport Municipal Airport until his retirement in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; daughters and sons-in-law, Bambi and Brad Flanner, Michelle and Carl Landriault, and Lisa and Chad Rowley; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Susan Harper and Lane and Lisa Scott; twelve grandchildren, Brookley, Jonah, Brandy, Brittanie, Amanda, Brian, Alix, Travis, Jessica, Lindsey, Nick, and Samantha; and a brother, Jesse Harper. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Kay Mudd, Marie Sharp, Paul Barnes, and A. C. Barnes.
