Claudette Swensson Obituary

Claudette C. Swensson

December 24, 1937 - October 12, 2025

MOLINE, ILLINOIS - Claudette C. Swensson, 87, of Moline, Ill., died Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, with Rev. Sue Hoff officiating, immediately followed by a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations (lower level) at Trimble Pointe. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Claudette's memory.

The former Claudette Carol Atwell was born December 24, 1937, in Moline, the daughter of Frances Carolyn (Almquist) and Claude Clifford Atwell, Sr. She graduated from Moline High School in 1955 and worked for the Rock Island County Health Department as a vision and hearing technician, retiring in 2000. Previously, she was employed at John Deere Wagon Works.

Claudette married the love of her life, Donald F. Swensson, on May 4, 1957, in Moline. The couple shared over 65 wonderful years together before his passing on May 24, 2022. She was a lifelong and active member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, where she served on the Church Council, Serenity Circle, and as Memorial Secretary. She was also a member of the Emma Kough Circle of King's Daughters, the KVB Hospital Circle, and the Jayceettes. Claudette served on the Franklin School and Wilson Junior High PTA, where she was a past president, and volunteered at Franklin School for several years.

She cherished her role as a stay-at-home mom and was an excellent cook, baker, and seamstress. Claudette was best described as a true caretaker; for her family, her church, her friends, and anyone in need. Above all, family was the center of her life, and she especially loved supporting her daughters and granddaughters in their school and extracurricular activities through the years.

Claudette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Michael Locander of Moline; two granddaughters, Janey and Alison Locander; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her daughter, Karla Swensson Brandt on March 27, 1987; a daughter in infancy; her sister, Dianne Orendorff; and brothers, Claude Atwell, Jr. and Maurice Atwell.

I knew Mrs Swensson from Salem Lutheran. She was a very sweet and kind lady. She always had a kind word for everyone. My condolences to her family.

Claudette was a dear friend of my Mom Audrey Larsen. They were in circle together at Salem Lutheran Church . I also knew her from there and Don was one of my Sunday School teachers . Later on , I worked as a school nurse , and had the privilege of working with her doing the vision and hearing screenings on our students . She is a wonderful lady who will be missed . My sympathy to the family .
