Donald J. Buysse

ATKINSON-Donald J. Buysse, 90, of Atkinson, IL, passed away on March 5, 2023, at Blessing Hospital - Quincy, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory -Atkinson Chapel. Private family services will be held at a later time with Reverend S. Stephen Engelbrecht celebrating. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery-Atkinson. Memorials can be made in Don's name to the Atkinson American Legion or St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Don was born in Atkinson, IL, on January 23, 1933, the son of Ralph and Florence (Lievens) Buysse. He married his wife of 57 years Corrine Andrews on October 14, 1967, and she survives. Don served his country in the United States Navy. He was active in the American Legion and St. Anthony Catholic Church. Don enjoyed auctioneering and did so for several years at the Chicago Stock Yards, while also owning his own auction company. He loved woodworking, collecting, selling real estate and farming, which he did for over 35 years. Don had exceptional work ethic and his ability to find a deal was unmatched. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. He also loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Corrine Buysse, children: Chuck (Teresa) Buysse of Wyanet, Ralph (Paula) Buysse of Geneseo, Patricia (Todd) Trainor of Bloomington, IL, and Donald (Theresa) Buysse of Woodbridge, VA, sister, Mildred Buysse of Palm Desert, CA, grandchildren: Shannon Hochstatter, Abigail (Bryce) Donaldson, Cale and Reed Buysse, Casper and Josie Trainor, Lily, Sammy and Quentin Buysse and great-grandson, Liam Buysse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Florence Buysse.
