Frederick Wayne Allen was born February 24, 1936, on a frigid windy snow storm. Since his mother couldn't make it to the hospital in Princeton, IL, his grandma, Clara Allen brought Wayne into this world. Wayne is the son of Frederick A. and Minnie H. (Weber) Allen. He married Sharon E. (Van Hyfte) Allen on June 25, 1960, in Kewanee, IL. He was educated in Princeton and Kewanee, and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1955.
At the age of 12 years old, Wayne helped his dad with the dairy business. In 1958, Wayne was served with draft papers. Then nine months later he was called back home to help his dad with the dairy business because while his dad was working, the boiler blew up and Wayne's dad hurt his back. Wayne's dad worked at Leafy Lane Dairy in Princeton, IL. Wayne worked at Allen's Dairy in Kewanee, IL, Allen's Restaurant in Kewanee, IL, Micheel-Osborne Dairy in Davenport, IA, Iowana Dairy in Davenport, IA, Dorhn Transfer in Rock Island, IL, Schnowske & Sons Rendering Services in Cambridge, IL, and UPS in Milan, IL, for 13 years as a mechanic until retiring in July 1995. After retirement he worked for Glenn Maertens, Steve Gustafson, Mike Blade, Michlig Grain, and always gave a lending hand to Mert Klawonn. Wayne started raising cattle from 1978-1982, with his brothers-in-law, Ken and Joe Van Hyfte. Then in 1982-2013, he raised the cattle on his 5-acre farm in Cambridge.
Wayne enjoyed stock car racing, as a mechanic with his good buddy, Jim Townsend as the driver in 1966-1971, at the Peoria Speedway and East Moline Speedway. Wayne was a vivid Nascar fan, and loved spending time with his family and friends. Wayne especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Brandon. Wayne was known to drive around town and visit with his friends daily, and really enjoyed his time with his Bishop Hill friends.
