ERIE-George C. Seger, 94, of Erie, IL, died Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Erie. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Revitalize Erie.
George was born May 11, 1929 in rural Erie, the son of Leslie and Alvina Christina (Ohlsen) Seger. He married Patricia Ellen Keag in 1955. She preceded him in death in 1970. He then married Joan (Ryan) Redell on February 26, 1988 in Clinton, Iowa. He served in the US Army from 1951 – 1953. He then worked at the John Deere Foundry in Silvis, retiring with over 40 years of service.
George was a volunteer firefighter with the Erie Fire Department for 18 years, charter member of Lake Erie Country Club, member of the Moose, UAW, and American Legion. George enjoyed dancing, doing yard work, refinishing wood furniture for family, golfing, traveling, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, reading Westerns and watching Westerns on TV. Above all, he loved his family very much and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife Joan; son, Craig (Cherrie) Seger, Oswego, IL; daughter, Paula (Roger) Preslar, Moline; step children, Jerry (Melody) Redell, Erie, Cindy (Neil) Young, Erie, Linda (Larry) Morine, Erie, Anna Redell, Morrison, Kyle (Beth) Redell, Erie; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia; brothers, Harry and Don Seger; and sisters, Thelma and Ruby. Share a memory or condolence at www.gibsonbodefh.com
