Glenda Elaine Kadel, 81, of Joy, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. The Ritual of the Order of the Eastern Star starts at 9:30 a.m., at Fippinger Funeral Home on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo, Illinois. Visitation will then be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the funeral home. The memorial service will directly follow at 12 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Glenda Kadel, with a designated charity to be chosen at a later time. Glenda was born on July 24, 1944 in Rock Island, Illinois to Glenn A. and Daisy M. Reitman Monson. She attended Aledo High School and Rockridge High School, graduating from Rockridge High School in 1962. Glenda was married to James "Jim" Lee Kadel on February 1, 1964 in Nashua, Iowa; they were married for 57 years before his passing on February 3, 2021.
Glenda was a devoted member of Buffalo Prairie Community Church for many years. She was heavily involved with the Buffalo Prairie Women's Association and served as a former president. Glenda was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Buffalo Prairie #516 and former clerk for Duncan Township. She was an avid gardener and helped her husband Jim farm for almost 60 years. Glenda adored her grandchildren and beloved dog, Cam. She loved every moment she spent with her family. They were precious to her.
When Glenda wasn't being a farmwife, she was employed at Bituminous Casualty, Carver Lumber, and Aledo Hardware Store.
Those left to cherish Glenda's memory include her three children: Elizabeth Sharon "Ann" (Mike) Dixon of Aurora, Illinois, James "Monty" (Julie) Kadel of Edgington, Illinois, and Christine Lynn (Ron) Rooth of Joy; six grandchildren, Ashley (Deven Olson) Rooth, Austin J. (Shelby) Rooth, Tyler (Sydney) Dixon, Austin P. (Karli) Dixon, Sarah (Steven) Dunlop, and Kristin (Jake) Kadel; ten great grandchildren; siblings, Janice Carver of Milan, Illinois and Ralph (Melinda) Monson of Lake Jacksonville, Texas; three sisters-in-law: Donna Kadel of Joy, Joyce Hanks of Lone Tree, Iowa, and Dixie Monson of Aledo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jim, parents Glenn and Daisy, brother Robert "Buck" Monson and brothers-in-law, Ron Carver, Don Hanks, and William "Bill" Kadel.
The family would also like to thank University of Iowa Hospitals, UnityPoint Hospice, and Taylor Maid Elderly Care for the special care they gave to Glenda.
