ROCK ISLAND-James P. Redington, 85, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the mass from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Private burial will be Wednesday in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
James was born on June 20, 1936, in Rock Island, a son of Michael and Rose (McCulley) Redington. He graduated from Alleman High School and received a bachelor's degree from St. Ambrose University. James then served in the U.S. Army and married Sharon Sullivan on February 16, 1963, in Moline. He retired as a program analyst from the U.S. Armaments Command after over 20 years of service. James was an avid golfer and Green Bay Packers fan. After retirement, He enjoyed trips to Florida with his wife, Sharon.
Those left to cherish James' memory include his wife, Sharon; daughter, Molly Rea, Rock Island; sons, John (Robin) Redington, Rochelle, IL, and Jay Redington, Rock Island; grandchildren, Katie and Andrew Rea, Danny and Ben Redington, and Anna Redington.
James was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael; and sisters, Jeanne and Peggy.
