James Swanson

May 19, 1933 - July 2, 2025

James Henry Swanson, 92, of Geneseo, Ill., passed away on July 2, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by family. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at St Malachy's Catholic Church in Geneseo, Ill. Father Chris Haake will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Vandemore Funeral Home – Geneseo, Chapel. Memorials may be directed St Malachys Catholic Church.

James was born on May 19, 1933, the son of Henry and Marjorie (Armstrong) Swanson in Geneseo, Ill. He was a Korean War era veteran. James owned Sheffield Order Buyers until retirement, was an avid golfer, and high-level member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew him.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Pauline; beloved brother to Patricia Swanson Hansen; and beloved father of Julie Swanson Shaw (and Bill Kincaid), Marty (Janet) Swanson, James J. Swanson, Susan Swanson, M. Tad Swanson, Kirsten (Michael) Swanson Velasco; and beloved Bompa and great-grandfather to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marjorie Swanson; sons, David and Peter Swanson.
