SHERRARD-On the morning of April 29, 2023, JoAnne Barnes from Sherrard, Illinois passed away peacefully due to natural causes at Mercer Manor of Aledo. JoAnne was age 92.
Visitation will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Matherville on Wednesday, May 3rd from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:15 a.m. Burial will be in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. Memorials may be left for Farlow Grove Cemetery or St. Anthony's Catholic Church (to support the luncheon committee). Dennison Funeral Home, Viola is handling arrangements.
JoAnne was born July 3, 1930 in rural Sherrard, Illinois to Willis D. and Lois E. Heston Hartman. On January 16, 1953 she married Bernard James Barnes, they later divorced. She was employed as a machine operator at J.I. Case Company, Rock Island. JoAnne lived many years with her cousins Pearl and Leona Barnes outside of Matherville and assisted with taking care of their horses. JoAnne loved horses and loved camping and riding her own horses. She was a prior member of Winola Saddle Club. JoAnne was an avid deer hunter. Her greatest joy was time spent with family.
JoAnne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Catherine and Neal Rice; grandson and his wife: Brian and Katie Rice; granddaughter and her husband: Erica and Eric Alexander; grandson: Bill Barnes; and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Joseph Barnes; sister: Beverly Basala, and brother: Bill Hartman.
