Joyce Ann Murphy
July 27,1953 - January 31, 2024
Joyce Ann Murphy, 70, of Taylor Ridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 31, 2024, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00p.m. on Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Edgewood Baptist Church.
Born July 27, 1953, in Rock Island, IL, to Phillip and Dorothy (Pfaff) Alongi, Joyce married Jim Somes in 1973, and raised her three children. She met Jesus as a young woman and lived her life as His follower. On July 3, 1999, she married Gary Murphy, her best friend and love of her life. Over almost 25 years together they shared many interests, including traveling, riding motorcycles, studying Scripture and most of all, 'being there' for family and friends.
Joyce left a legacy of caring and compassion. She modeled sacrificial love, and prioritized investing in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a blessing to many. She spent years as a nurturing caretaker for her aging parents. Gifted as a musician with a beautiful voice, Joyce was a worshipper, playing both piano and guitar, and singing solos in church. Music was her passion. Professionally, Joyce barbered in the QC for many years.
Those cherishing Joyce's memory include her husband, Gary Murphy; children: Liz Somes, Kevin (Sytil) Murphy, Kent (Ashley) Murphy, Adrianne Maginn, Katie (RJ) LaBonde, and Gabe (Sue) Somes; many grandchildren; siblings: Janet Alongi, Martha Victor, Phyllis (Bill) Schnell, and Ted (Suzanne) Alongi, Brian (Christine) Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and canine companion, Roo.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Karlie Murphy; brother, Craig Alongi; and brother-in-law, Wayne Victor.

Gary,
Dan and I are heartbroken to learn of Joyce´s sudden illness and passing. Our prayers and our condolences are with you and your family.
We´re grateful to have gotten together with Joyce and you in recent years. We´ll cherish her loving, caring and compassionate spirit. We´ll treasure her fun loving smile and laugh. We were so looking forward to many more special times together.
Our loss is heaven´s gain.
We sadly regret not being able to attend her visitation and funeral, as we are away for the month. So sorry we left the QC not knowing how seriously ill
she was.
We know she would want us to find joy in her uniting with Jesus and her family in heaven. Linda and Dan Johnson
