Joyce Nolan Obituary

Joyce Marie Nolan

November 28, 1938 - July 30, 2024

Joyce Marie Nolan, 85, of Moline, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Overlook Village, Moline.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Memorials may be made in care of the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Joyce was born on November 28, 1938, in Neponset, IL, a daughter of Jessie Albert and Esther Lenea (O'Mark) Failon. She married Kenneth Albert Nolan on September 20, 1958, in Kewanee, IL, and he preceded her in death.

Joyce started her work career in 1958 at the Servus Rubber Co. She worked at the Servus Rubber Co. until 1964 when she and her husband, Ken, decided to start their family. From 1964 to 1971, they grew their family by adding three children to it (Bradley Allen, Brenda Lee, and Kevin Wayne). Joyce stayed at home to raise her family from 1964 until 1976 when her last child entered elementary school. Joyce re-entered the workforce in 1976 by choosing to work at McCabe's department store. She dearly loved working at McCabe's and always considered her co-workers family. Joyce was employed at McCabe's for eight years until it closed in 1984. She then went back to school attending Blackhawk Junior College to get her nursing degree and became a dedicated care giver at Rock Island County Health Care Center, Oak Glen Nursing Home, and Hope Creek Nursing Home until she retired in 2009.

Joyce loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and good neighbor to those in her Hilltop Drive and 7th Street West neighborhoods. In earlier years enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and friends. She was an active person, who would go for long walks or ride her bicycle. Joyce was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Over her 84 years of life, anyone who had the privilege of meeting Joyce, knew in an instant that she was hard working, kind, loving, and compassionate. She was the type of person who would gladly give the shirt off of her back if it would help another person in need.

Those left to cherish Joyce's memory include her children: Bradley Nolan, Brenda (Jim) Cook and Kevin (Wendi) Nolan; and grandchildren: Christopher and Abigail Nolan, David (Kelsie) Cook, Daniel (Ashely) Cook and Ella, and Grant Nolan.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; and brothers: Keith and Roger Failon.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Overlook Village as they provided outstanding care for our mother. The family would also like to recognize and express its deepest appreciation and gratitude to Gloria Lampkin and Nuku Lampkin. Their friendship and dedication to our mother was tireless and an inspiration of how people are supposed to treat one another.
