Karen A. Simpson, 84, of Viola, Illinois passed away Friday, December 20, 2024 at Mercer Manor in Aledo.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. The Funeral Service will directly follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will be at Norwood Cemetery in rural Alexis. Memorial contributions may be left to the Viola Volunteer Fire Department, Beacon of Hope Hospice, or No Foot Too Small in honor of Stoney June.

Karen was born on October 2, 1940 to Marvin and Helga Bertlesen Ugarph in Clinton, Iowa. She married Robert "Bob" Simpson in Clinton on October 8, 1961. He passed away on June 26, 2015.

Karen was employed as a registered nurse at the Mercer County Hospital from 1962 to 2004. She retired as the OB Supervisor and later worked in Mercer County Homecare. Karen was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She loved spending time with her family, reading, and being with them for many activities. Karen also enjoyed crocheting and wintering in Florida. She helped start the Viola First Responders Program and was the first woman on the Viola Fire Department.

Those left to cherish Karen's memory are her two children, Jeffrey (Sharon) Simpson of Aledo, IL and Sandra Simpson Adams of Davenport, IA; four grandchildren: Matthew (Cindy) Simpson of Aledo, Brian (Jensenn) Simpson of Washington, IL, and David Adams and Kaitlyn Adams, both of Davenport; three great grandchildren: Kaylee, Madelyn, and Sutton; two sisters, Diane (Gary) Thompson of Quinlan, TX and Gail Vittitow of Cumming, GA; brother-in-law, Richard (Janet) Simpson of Alexis, IL; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Pat Fugate.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, great granddaughter, Stoney June, stepfather, Robert Jones, and sister-in-law, Edythe McKee.
