Katherine "Elaine" Rommel, 85 of East Moline, formerly of Reynolds, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Park Vista, East Moline. Visitation will be Sunday, July 14th from 1 to 3 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, followed by Graveside services at 3:30 PM at the Edgington Cemetery, Edgington, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or QC Paws.
Katherine Elaine was born on December 28, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa to Earl & Ruth Marie (Whitehall) Hampton. She married Stanley E. Rommel on December 15, 1957, in Edgington, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2007.
Elaine was a devoted homemaker, who also enjoyed volunteering as a Kindergarten helper, especially when her granddaughters were in the class. She also had her own Beauty Salon in her home for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting and many other types of mediums. Elaine especially enjoyed the time spent with her siblings and was a devoted caretaker of her shih tzu pups, Tiffy and Buddy.
Elaine is survived by her children: Ron & Kimberly Rommel of Overland Park, KS and Marcia Day of Taylor Ridge, IL; 4 Grandchildren: Tara & Pat Flynn, Karrie & Jeremiah Rindler, Jacquie Coulter and Holden Goertzen; 5 Great-Grandchildren: Mallory, Avery & Braedon Flynn and Korbin and Griffin Rindler; and Siblings: Joyce Hill and Janet Brinkman. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stanley, son-in-law, Shane Day and Siblings: Don Hampton, John Hampton, Verna DeClerck, Delores Anderson and Mary Cameron.
