The former Laurel Joanne Kingsbury was born November 14, 1945, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Lowell and Frances (Himes) Kingsbury. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1963 and went on to work as a buyer at John Deere for 28 years, retiring in 2002. She enjoyed her many friendships formed while at John Deere.

In her early years, Laurie devoted herself to raising her son. She later dedicated her time and talents to organizations including Dress for Success and Junior Achievement. Following her retirement, she continued her service as a volunteer with The ARC, Senior Olympics, and the Festival of Trees, among others.

Laurie's many interests included music, dancing, gardening, sewing, walking, biking, and traveling with friends. Above all, her most treasured role was that of "Grandma B." Her grandchildren will always cherish the lasting memories created during their beloved "Grandma B Camps."

Laurie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Lori Brown of North Liberty, Iowa; her pride and joy, three granddaughters, Maria, Anna and Laura Brown, all of Austin, Texas; siblings, Judi (Ken) Mason, Lowell "Sonny" (Linda) Kingsbury, Helen "Sue" Flack, Sarah "Sally" Groene, and Deborah Doman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Lowell Kingsbury; her mother and step-father, Frances and Delmar Ranker; and sister, Marianne Schaffer.

I was doing spring pruning and Boo brought Laurel and me together. I had recently moved to Moline and Laurel, Boo, and I immediately hit it off! My husband and I so enjoyed spending time with this special lady. She gave friendship when I needed it.
