August 8, 1931 - September 30, 2025
O.P. "Pete" Guyton, 94, of Sherrard, Ill., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Born on August 8, 1931 in Lamar County, Ala. He was the loving son of Oscar and Eldora Guyton. There will be a visitation from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 am on Monday, October 6, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to United Community Church, Matherville, Ill.
Pete was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He went on to proudly work for John Deere for 30 years after his service and later worked 30 more as a tour guide. Pete married the love of his life on December 11, 1954, Shirley Berdine Smith. Together they had four children.
Pete was a devoted member of the United Community Church – Matherville, Ill. He was passionate about the Lord, his family, and music. He found great comfort and inspiration in all of those. His most memorable song, "Thank You for Walking With Me," resonated with many and served as a testament to his spiritual journey and gratitude for the love of his Lord.
Pete will be remembered for his kindness, humor, love for music, and unwavering devotion to this family and faith.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 70 years, Shirley; children, Derek (Ann) Guyton, Scott Guyton, Brenda (Kenny) Moreland, and Phillip Guyton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erica, Michael, Tomika, Jonathan, Meghan, Chellie, Deanna, Dallas, and Jessi; great-grandchildren, Mary, Brenna, Bryce, Harper, Hope, Sunny, and Reagan; great-great-grandchildren, Tattum, Carmello, Abel, Ellie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mavis Eastman, Billy Guyton, and Clarence Guyton.
