Owen Stipp Obituary

Owen Thomas Stipp

September 22, 1941 - September 30, 2025

Owen Thomas Stipp, 84, of Geneseo, IL, passed away in his home Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11 am, Tuesday, October 14 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Bowlesburg Cemetery. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Owen was born September 22, 1941 at Moline Lutheran Hospital, the son of Lynn Stipp and Florence (Hynd). He spent many happy hours during his childhood on the Hynd family farm in Silvis.

Owen Stipp married Nancy England on August 13, 1983 and they spent many fulfilling and devoted years with their blended family and special friends.

Owen was a United Township High School (East Moline) graduate of the Class of 1959. He also attended Black Hawk College and Iowa State University.

As a teenager, Owen worked at a local Wareco gas station in East Moline. He later worked as an engineer for Amatek and as a facilities engineer for International Harvester Co., both in East Moline. He retired as vice-president of Diversified Industrial Services and Commercial Operations in East Moline.

In retirement Owen was well-known for his superior woodworking skills, crafting beautiful furniture, wall art, and toys. He used these skills and his experience as a general contractor to build three homes for his family, including a log home in Moline, and a lakeside house near Colona.

A life-long Catholic, Owen was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, Fr. Bill Betson Council. He served on the building committee of Christ the King Church when the original building was expanded.

Always active in his children's school activities and athletics, Owen was a founding member of the Wrestling Boosters at Geneseo High School.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy, of Geneseo; sons Tom (Missy) Stipp of Littleton, CO and Mike (Tami) Stipp of Abingdon, IL; daughter Sue (Mark) Hamer of Cedar Rapids, IA; stepdaughters Elizabeth (Matthew) Lanoue of Channahon, IL and Maggie (David) Johnson of Davenport, IA; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Carol (Brian) Mumma of Bettendorf, IA, Linda Kirklin of East Moline, and Kathy Bradley of Lenexa, KS; many nieces, nephews, and other family; and life-long friends Gene Mourisse and Floyd Stockwell.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Florence Stipp, his first wife Sandy (Kincaid) and brothers-in-law: Jerry Anderson and Tom Bradley.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Knights of Columbus Fr. Bill Betson Council, Christ the King Catholic Church, and Humility of Mary Housing and Services, Davenport, IA.

Owen was my first employer as a young teenage babysitter in Carbon Cliff for "Tommy, Mikey & Susie"!
Owen was a kind man and was always encouraging to a shy small town girl to have confidence in herself and the future. Thank you Owen.

Nancy and family I am truly sad to learn of Owen passing. I was your neighbor at Rustic Acres, Schnaufer then I remarried ride first husband at St Malachy when Del passed. Your sewing and his woodworking abilities were a combination that sure earned respect. I pray you are well. I had lived across from Bowlesburg school and would see Owen or Kathy working at the farm. Blessings for all of you

I remember Owen from being a "wrestling father" in Geneseo a long time ago. He was an avid fan of his sons and very supportive of the team. An all around good guy.
