May 21, 1927-April 27, 2021
ORION-Richard Duane Samuelson, 93, of Orion, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at his home.
Private burial will be held at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family.
Duane was born on May 21, 1927, in Moline, the son of Edward Reuben and Dora J. (Lawson) Samuelson. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1951-1953. He married Geraldine Love on June 7, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. Together they farmed until their later years and Duane continued to help his sons farm after his retirement. He cared for his wife when she became ill for several years until her death in August of 2020. He enjoyed bowling, the Chicago Tribune crossword puzzle, and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Duane always had a smile on his face and made time to visit with family and friends. He was a very patient man and was always doing what was in the best interest of those around him. He was lovingly called Uncle Bud or Sam by his nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Terry Samuelson of Orion, and Keith (Lisa) Samuelson of Lynn Center; grandchildren, Alex Samuelson of Lynn Center, and Ann Marie Samuelson of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Loretta Parrish; and nephew, Rod Parrish.
Duane will be tremendously missed by his family and friends.
A special thank you to In Home Care Connections and Heartland Hospice for all the good care that was given to both Duane and Geraldine.
