Rick Borkgren Obituary
August 21, 1952 - February 24, 2025
Rick Alan Borkgren, 72, of Woodhull, Illinois passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
The visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Memorial contributions may be left to the Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodhull Cemetery Association, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Rick was born on August 21, 1952 in Geneseo, Illinois, the son of Elwyn and Lila Swanson Borkgren. He graduated from Geneseo High School with the Class of 1970. In 1972, Rick joined the United States Army National Guard and proudly served until 1978. On December 1, 1973 he married Martha Ann Egert in Geneseo. They were married for 50 years before her passing on May 1, 2024.
Rick developed a love for hard work at a young age. His first job was as a paper boy at the age of five. In 1973 he began farming in the Woodhull area. A few years later he and his brother began working together and expanded to trucking as well. He continued working with his family, including his sons, for over 50 years.
He was a proud and longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. In his spare time, he enjoyed going on a relaxing tractor ride. Most of all he loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Jason (Brandy) Borkgren of Woodhull, Kyle (Misty) Borkgren of Alpha, Alex (Kelly) Borkgren of Woodhull; nine grandchildren, Kendall, Seth, Vince, Bennett, Sydney, Taylor, Presley, Jayla, McKenna; five great-grandchildren, Vivien, Garrett, Melody, Shania, Lenox; three siblings, Chris (Mark) Johnson of Oak Park, Cheryl (Jerry) St. Vincent of Geneseo, Randy (Terri) Borkgren of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

As farmers...our best visits with other farmers are on the country roads or out in the fields. Had a really good talk with Rick last year. He was pulling out of a field with the semi. We stopped on the road and had a Great visit!
