Robert "Bob" Loy Mortland

ROCK ISLAND - Robert "Bob" Loy Mortland, 94, of Rock Island, died Friday, June 21, 2024, at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 1, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in Andalusia Cemetery, Andalusia. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
Bob was born on March 1, 1930, in Rock Island, the son of Robert C. and Margaret L. (Stevens) Mortland. He married the former Ruth Hartman on February 13, 1971.
Bob had been employed as a mechanic at Anderson Motor Co before retiring. He proudly served in the military. Bob was a small plane pilot and member of the pilots club near Aledo.
Bob was known for his laugh and humility; he loved bowling and racing go-carts. He was also a collector of antique cars that he would drive in various parades and was able to fix anything on a car.
Bob was a member of First Lutheran Church in Rock Island, where he acted as the maintenance and handyman.
Survivors include his wife, several nieces, nephews and close friends. A special thanks to the Mortland Team (Wanda Esping, Tim Anderson, Ron and Marilyn Raymond and Mike and Rhonda McCalester), who looked after all of Bob's needs on a regular basis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary.
