December 12, 1937 - March 29, 2025
Roger R. "Hitter" VanDeHeede, 87, of East Moline, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Christ the King Church, Moline. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Alleman High School or Alleman Booster Boys Football.
Hitter was born December 12, 1937 in Moline, the son of Henry and Alice (Maddelein) VanDeHeede. He married Joyce DeCapp on June 23, 1962 in East Moline.
Hitter graduated from United Township High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. He retired as the General Manager of Black Hawk Hotel, Davenport and LeClaire Hotel, Moline.
Hitter was a member of Christ the King Church and Short Hills Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fund raising for Alleman High School, coaching and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He was also the 1976 IHSA/IBCA Junior High Coach of the Year.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; children, Mike VanDeHeede, Silvis, Jim (Lynn) VanDeHeede, Moline and Jill VanDeHeede, Moline; grandchildren, Jacob, Bailey, Ali Jo, Anne Marie, Daniel and Luke; and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Remi.

Roger and I were friends for over 80 years. We played together and worked together. Roger was a true friend and someone you could depend on if you needed anything. He will be missed not only by me, but by anyone who knew him. May peace be with Joyce and the family. Bob Kennedy
