Roxy Core Obituary

Roxy Callahan Core, 65, of Moline, Il passed away suddenly on February 27th, 2024 in Corning, IA. Arrangements are being made through Van Hoe Funeral Home. Per Roxy's wishes there will be no visitation and the family will celebrate her life privately, welcoming all friends of Roxy's to join. Roxy's Celebration of Life will be held at Len Brown's North Sore Inn- 700 North Shore Drive Moline, IL. The celebration will start at 4:30 pm with a tribute to honor Roxy's life and all the invaluable times we have shared with her followed by a taco dinner benefit to help the family cover the cost of her final expenses.

Roxy was born on February 27th 1959 to Robert and Bonita Kirklin. She graduated from United Township Highschool in 1977, took a job as a flight attendant and went on to study abroad in London. Roxy married Darrin Callahan in 1978 and divorced in 1979. She spent more than 20 years with her life partner Chris Ashby and was a loving and loyal companion to her best friend of 30 years Kathy Ganey. Roxy later married Stanley Core at their home in Corning, IA in 2011. She was widowed when he passed away in December 2023.

Roxy lived a full life filled with simple pleasures and exquisite talents. She loved singing and dancing to music, thrift store shopping, exploring nature and spending time with family and friends, but most of all she loved being a Grandma. Roxy's children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. Other things that brought Roxy great joy throughout her life include spending time with her sisters, creating beautiful works of art, watching soap operas and mysteries and reading James Patterson books. But Roxy was always happiest and most fulfilled when helping others.

Roxy's lifes work reflected her compassion and dedication to helping others. After a few tried careers as a flight attendant, an EMT, A bartender and a special education teacher she eventually found her calling working as a private caregiver for over 20 years. She was loving and nurturing, helping the families she cared for with unwavering dedication throughout their final days. Roxy was also a member of the Friendship 06 Circle - Illinois Chapter Kings Daughters and Sons. No words can describe the immeasurable impact Roxy has made on so many lives throughout her years, but everyone who has ever met her has felt it.

Roxy was proceeded in death by her husband Stanley Core, parents Robert and Bonita Kirklin, grandchildren, Caleb and Gracelyn, great-nephew Taylor Kirklin, great-neice Alyssa and her best friends Kathy Ganey, Sindy Slay, and Carlene Brackett.

She is survived by her son Shaun Callahan, daughter Abby Whitney (Callahan), her grandchildren Hannah, Hailey, Lincoln, Zoe, Miyah, Makenna, Zachary, Brayden, Cayla, Nikki, and Hunter. Great-grandchildren Elliott, Taeshaun, Tavyon, Mazie, Grand-dogs Dirk and Arie, Siblings Jackie Kirklin, Diana Kirklin, Terry (Jerry) Iams, Barbie Kirklin, Kathy Kirklin, Sherri Morgan; her former son-in-law James Whitney, former daughters-in-law Stephanie Callahan and Cherries Long and former significant other Chris Ashby and many extended family and friends.

Roxy was also a great roller skater! I remember many weekend's at Skate land in East Moline. I also had a crush on her then, what a cutie! I would think about her from time to time wondering how she was doing. Looks like she had a great life. I'm sure she will be sadly missed, and never forgotten.
