Simonne Counihan, 87, of Moline, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m. Monday at the Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 – 1st St A, Moline with 3:30p.m. Rosary by the Sacred Heart Altar and Rosary Society. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Seton Catholic School or Sacred Heart Parish.
Simonne was born on September 5, 1936, in Woonsocket, RI, the daughter of Wilfred Boucher and Marie Anne Lussier. She graduated high school from St. Claire Boarding School in 1954 and from the University of Vermont dental hygiene program in 1956. She married Jeremiah Counihan on January 25, 1958.
Simonne was involved in Army wives club and PTA when her children were younger. She worked as a dental hygienist for 24 years and was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, Moline, volunteering for numerous ministries. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Altar and Rosary Society and served as president for four years. Simonne loved her family and was a constant source of strength and wisdom. She was a beloved Mema who never forgot a birthday or anniversary.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 66 years, Jeremiah; her cherished children: Marie Counihan, Davenport, Peter (Cathy) Counihan, Huntington Beach, CA, Patrick (Shannon) Counihan, Tehachapi, CA, Kathleen (Doug) VanDerGinst, Moline; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jeanne Tarrant, Norwalk, CT; her sister-in-law, Ruth Rabalais, Rogers, AR; and many nieces and nephews.
