Terrie Meaker Obituary
Terrie Ann Meaker
August 5, 1957 - February 28, 2025
Terrie Ann (Gimble) Meaker, 67, of Milan, IL, passed away the morning of February 28, 2025, at OSF St. Joseph hospital in Bloomington, IL, surrounded by loved ones.
Terrie was born on August 5, 1957, in Hermiston, OR and was the only daughter of Julius and Ann (Piersol) Gimble. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Douglas Meaker. Terrie is survived by her 4 children, Jennifer (Chris) Cunliffe of Danvers, IL, Megan (Jim) Keilman of Normal, IL, Joshua Meaker and Amanda Meaker both of Milan, IL; her brothers John (Lucy) Gimble of Elwood, IL and Tony (Linda) Gimble of Moline, IL; along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Terrie graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1975 and afterwards obtained her Nursing Degree from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing.
Terrie started as a nurse for Franciscan hospital in Rock Island, IL. For many years, she worked there and was very proud to be a part of the burn unit. This was the only burn unit for miles and ended up being not only a job she loved but also her greatest achievement. In fact, Terrie met Douglas in the burn unit where romance bloomed.
Terrie married Douglas Meaker on November 4, 1980, in Edgington, IL. They had 4 children and stayed married up until Douglas' passing in March of 2000. Terrie was most proud of her children and showed it by cheering them on and encouraging them to pursue all their interests. She was always active in her children's lives and made it a point to be there for every moment. Many of Terrie's evenings and weekends were full of juggling Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, T-Ball, softball, baseball, basketball, football, Rainbow, and DeMolay. When Terrie wasn't busy taxiing to and from extra-curricular activities, she enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, BINGO, ceramics, and watching her shows. Terrie was also a former member of the Milan Chapter for Eastern Star.
Of all the titles Terrie carried, survivor is one of her best. She survived 3 strokes, a near-fatal car accident, 2 diagnoses of cancer, and so much more. Terrie was also diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease.
There will be a private service Friday, March 21, 2025. The family would like those who knew Terrie to attend a Celebration of Life lunch in her honor. This will be held at the Milan American Legion on March 21, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. Please come and share your favorite memories and stories.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the GOFUNDME that was set up in Terrie's name and honor. Gofund.me/811418b4.
