Travis Stanley Obituary

Travis D. Stanley

April 29, 1953 - December 2, 2024

Travis D. Stanley, 71, of Thompson, Ill., formerly of East Moline, Ill., passed away Monday December 2, 2024, at University of Iowa Medical Center, Iowa City.

In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Heartland Pet Welfare, Savanna, Ill.

Travis was born April 29, 1953, in Moline, Ill., a son of Birt F. and Lucille E. (Burns) Stanley. He graduated from Moline High School, Class of 1972. He married Geri Lynn Waggoner on October 24, 1992, in East Moline. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2022.

Travis was a professional truck driver. He began driving with M & S Transfer and E & D Trucking. He then was an owner-operator for 30 years.

In earlier years, he was a member of the Coal Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Travis loved wrenching on cars, fishing and junking. You would always find him fixing something or helping someone in need. He loved sitting around a good fire with his family and friends sharing stories. Travis was always on his phone calling those he loved, and those phone calls will surely be missed. His animals were his constant companions in his later years and he was a devoted dog dad to them. Travis was unique and one of a kind, his loyalty and love for people was unmatched.

Surviving are his daughter, Jenny (Kenny) Nyquist, Port Byron, Ill.; son, Joshua (Genie) Stanley, Kewanee, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his beloved pet-dogs, "Judo", "Baby girl" and "Junior".

Travis was preceded in death by his wife, Geri Lynn; daughter, Jackie Hockaday; parents, Birt and Lucille; and siblings, Dale Stanley and Debra Graham.

Travis was a friend of mine when I lived in Davenport, IA. I'm sorry to hear that he passed away. He was a good man that would do anything to help others. He was a good friend to me and I'm sorry we didn't keep in touch when I moved away. I'll miss him.

I am a cousin of Travis'. Not many family left, but I was glad to re-connect with him after many years. I did not know he was ill. My brother is here currently from California, and Travis was planning to come to QC to visit between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This was a sad revelation. The obituary was very true to form. We would enjoy seeing him on trips as we headed to Galena. He was proud of his new home and couldn't wait for us to see it. God Bless.

To the Stanley family, Travis lived up the hill in Moline from us. He was my older sisters age. He had stopped by the house many times as my brothers were always working on cars. I had the chance to talk to him a few times the last couple months reminiscing about our past memories from our youth. My condolences to all his loved ones as I feel bad now I didn't get to stop by his home in Thompson when I traveled through! I will always remember his red car with the 4 on the floor as well!
