CORDOVA-Willard "Bill" E. Somers, Jr., 75, of Cordova, IL, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at his home. Memorials services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron, is in care of arrangements.
Bill was born July 5, 1947 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Willard Everett Somers and Eva (Van Brunt) Somers. He attended Riverdale Schools. He was first married to Shirley Sutton from which his three sons were born. He later married Karen Walters. Bill worked construction before becoming a truck driver for the Teamsters Local Union, a job he did for many years. In recent years he enjoyed doing construction and remodeling with his friend, John Haan.
Bill enjoyed motorcycles, boating and fishing. He was a spectator of many sports, particularly football, drag racing and auto racing. He was a person that never met a stranger. Bill was always friendly and loved doing things with his many friends.
He is survived by his two sons, James Dean Somers, Clinton, IA, Ty Somers, Davenport, IA; grandson, Ryan Walker; special friend, Denise Michaels, New Windsor, IL; bonus family member, Danielle Mundell; special "granddaughter", Gracie Haan; longtime best friends, Dean and Candy Moyer, John and Amy Haan and Delmar Moyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Willard Everett Somers III; and a brother, Stephen Somers. Share a memory or condolence at www.gibsonbodefh.com.
