Alane Watkins, 59, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Genesis Medical Center-East, following a long courageous battle with thymoma cancer.
Alane Louise Watkins was born January 1, 1966, to Charles and Myra (Doerscher) Watkins. Following graduation from Central Community High School in DeWitt in 1984, she attended Sharon Doran's school of cosmetology from 1984 to 1986, and then the University of Iowa College of Electrical Engineering, graduating in 1989 with a bachelor's degree.
Alane worked as an electrical engineer in I.T. for Kraft Foods from 1989 to 2015. From 2016 to 2018, she worked for Gilead Pharmaceutical Sciences in California until her cancer diagnosis brought her back home. During her cancer treatment, she completed training requirements for massage therapy at the Institute of Therapeutic Massage and Wellness in Davenport.
She was passionate about cooking and gardening. She was an avid cyclist, participating in the Lake Tahoe bike ride for seven years to raise funds for lymphoma research and riding RAGBRAI for 13 years. She traveled to several foreign countries, embraced new sports and challenges, and devoted her time to inspiring others. For 13 years, she volunteered with Junior Achievement of Chicago and also served as a docent for Forest Grove School #5 in Bettendorf.
Surviving are her father, Charles; a brother, Kevin; and sister, Karen Watkins, all of Camanche; as well as many cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Myra.
In keeping with Alane's wishes, no services will be held. Those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to do so by supporting Forest Grove School, Prairie Union Cemetery, or a charity of choice.
