He was born on February 7, 1934, to Marguerite Flickinger and Lester Maris Dyke. Twin and older brother completed a blessed and fortunate family. Jan was reared and educated near ancestral home, Orange City, IA, and by S.U.I. in Iowa City, IA. He was a repair man. Mantra of sucker; heel, and The-Fix guided his life.
Wife, Mary Childress, was learned and beloved helpmate; scientist. A clutch of perfect children and a gaggle of perfecter grandchildren were God's Blessing. Charles Jan enjoyed sports, music, and general Midwest living. Literature was his great hobby. He loved freedom and The Great Experiment that is American Exceptionalism. At the time of death, he was allowed to take out the garbage and was certified to drive at night.
Family services will be held at ancestral community.

Jan was a unique individual with a quirky sense of humor. He was a 'gentleman and a scholar' who helped us during our parents' last days.
