Dan Scieszinski Obituary

Dan Scieszinski

June 29, 1950 - September 18, 2025

Dan Scieszinski, 75, passed peacefully September 18th in the peace and comfort of his family's home following an extended illness.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Dan's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 10th at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport, with visitation beginning one hour before Mass in the church gathering space. A private burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dan was born June 29, 1950 in Davenport to Jim and Anne (Sulentic) Scieszinski. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1968 and the University of Iowa in 1976.

Dan was a friend to all, outgoing and personable while also enjoying time to himself. His personality and sense of fairness served him well in his work as claims adjuster and claims manager. He maintained lifelong friendships with those he met over the years, including his high school buddies, gathering every two years to celebrate their friendship. He maintained a youthful optimism even as he aged.

Music was Dan's passion. He enjoyed playing the drums and listening to music and could easily list the drummers in Duke Ellington's orchestra as well as name the type of guitars played by Carlos Santana. He was an encyclopedia of music.

He had a big heart that melted when around kids, whom he dearly loved. His generosity knew no bounds when it came to friends and the less fortunate. He felt the pain of others, and although he questioned the role of religion, he lived a life of truth and compassion. He was honest, frank and strong in his opinions.

Dan was a man of kindness, intelligence, loyalty and strength. He loved his family and friends unconditionally and they loved him.

Dan suffered silently but valiantly throughout his life with the pain of arthritis and the debilitating effects of heart disease. Although he will be missed forever, he has now found peace and comfort.

Dan is survived by his brother, Dick of Des Moines and sister Deb (Bill) Phillips of Naples, FL and numerous cousins, both near and far.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, infant siblings Tom and Julie, grandparents Ika and Milan Sulentic and Mary and Dan Scieszinski, and numerous aunts and uncles.
