Danny McElyea Obituary
November 16, 1943 - January 13, 2025
On Monday January 13th, Danny W. "Grizzle" McElyea passed away at the age of 81. Danny was born November 16, 1943, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, to Mary Laura Mccullar and Arthur Paul McElyea. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Danny loved to play golf and go bowling with his buddies. He was an avid music lover and was also a great drummer. He loved his cars. If you knew Danny, you'd see him with a new car every other year; he especially loved his challenger. He was a selfless man that cared about everyone around him.
Danny was preceded in death by his father, Arthur McElyea, and his mother, Mary Mccullar. He is survived by his four kids, Christopher McElyea, Jennifer Reimers (Shawn Reimers), Dyanna Rigg (Brandy Rigg), Danna Metcalf (Dan Metcalf); his grandchildren, Jayden Heiser (Clayton Bates), Justin Allen (Taylor Damp), Taija Allen (Jarel Lacy), Seth, Brennan, Christian; his great-grandchildren, Nolan Allen, Aria Bates, Oliver Bates, Amelia Lee, JJ Lee, and many other family members.
A funeral will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery, March 14th, at 2 p.m. and a celebration of life will be held after. We would appreciate whoever knew Danny "Grizzle" to come.

I have many memories of my brother, Danny. We had many adventures exploring the canyons in our San Diego neighborhood where we grew up after being relocated from Marked Tree, Arkansas where he was born. He was the fastest runner I knew and everyone told him he reminded them of Mickey Rooney. He played the drums and toured with a band for several years until joining the army. We spent many nights after his work day watching TV and him eating Hostess cupcakes and an RC Cola. I am please to see messages from his friends, thank you for sharing your memories of Danny.

Dan and I played many rounds of golf with Danny! Also had him over for Super Bowl many times! he was an ornery friend, but very loved! Bought my house on Western Ave. maybe 17 or 18 years ago!! I will always have so many memories of him!!

I worked with Danny at Emeis. Always a pleasure, never a dull moment. Always jumping out and trying to scare us. You will be missed my friend.

Danny was a very nice guy. He didn't like my German shepherd very much thou !! If he was stopping by our house, he would ask a million times, "that dog won't be out right?" !! We will miss Danny....RIP.

Played a lot of golf over the years and worked with Danny at Emeis for many of those years. Never a dull moment and he made a great ham sandwich. RIP my friend!! And sometimes Champ!!
