AUGIE!! (?)

How nice to hear from you. I've often wondered where on earth you ended up.

I think you played your bass guitar Jimi Hendrix style?

I was on that War Wagon trip to the Keys. I think it was a wheel bearing or something like that and we ended up on a beach on one of the Keys. Doug and Muncher (maybe it was Link?) got it fixed, while the rest of us just watched!? For the first time in over 40 years I was back in Key West in 2014 when our daughter Krysty got married on Valentine's Day weekend. She got to meet Doug at Joyce's funeral.

I have a sister-in-law who lives in Ft. Lauderdale. We hang out with old folks (Lauderdale by the Sea / beachfront) every so often. I'm not sure just WHO an "old folk" is these days?! Ft. Lauderdale got out of the Spring Break party business years ago, so the area fits "old folks" like us even better now.

We should get together someday. I'm not that far away from Minnesota.

Doug was a good college friend. He cared.
I remember going down to Florida in the War Wagon..being broke shortly after arriving there and ending up camping if you will on the Keys.
I remember playing my bass guitar to Lepplin Tunes and think being an influence into Doug taking an interest in playing the guitar.
I remember a trip to Woodhull after SIU classes were suspended.
I remember Doug being a good friend and having good friends.
My comforts and sympathies to his family mrmbers.

May you Rest In Peace, Doug.
I know my Steve enjoyed talking baseball with you and most recently on visits to Woodhull we enjoyed chatting about our son's career path with the Yankees with you.
I have made a donation to the Chicago White Sox Charities in your memory. If you preferred the other Chicago team, well, guess you and Steve have more to discuss now.
With love,
Cousin Clarese

Hello, Link. You must be referring to The War Wagon? What a car!! It took us all on many round trips to Carbondale & Woodhull. Doug and I talked on our birthdays every year (mostly to complain about getting older and politics and, of course baseball). I have our old rubber home plate hanging in my garage (over which Doug and I blistered Milo's glove hand on many evening practices while Joyce cooked up dinner. We'd grab a hot meal, then go back out and throw some more). I hated having to be catcher. Poker! Sure glad that game was not part of our growing up together, but he sure as heck loved it. Thank you Karin and Peterson Wallin Knox for taking care of things. PerryA.

Lots and lots of poker. SIU campus, clubs and housing. Trying to catch his fast ball. The Purple Mousetrap. His 59 Chevrolet with the cat eye taillights. The Chicago 7 and not trusting anybody over 30.
