Ellen Carpenter

Ellen Marguerite Carpenter, age 94, passed away on March 22, 2026, at Lewis County Nursing Home in Missouri. A memorial service for Ellen will take place on April 7, 2026, at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport beginning at 11 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior at 10 a.m. A private family inurnment will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ellen Marguerite Baker was born on April 7, 1931, in Edina, Mo., the daughter of John and Faye (Kenoyer) Baker. She graduated in 1949 from Edina High School. In 1950, Ellen married John Peterson. To this union a daughter, Judy, was born. John preceded her in death in 1957. Ellen later married Jerald Carpenter, with whom she had two sons, Jerry and Scott, and later divorced. Ellen worked in administration for Palmer College of Chiropractic and later retired.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Dennis) Mayer of Monticello, Mo., and Dr. Scott (Debbie) Carpenter of Abingdon, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Carpenter (John Wassenhove) of Rock Island, Ill.; grandchildren, Laurie, Chuck, Andrew and Paige; step-grandchildren, Ann and Jeff; and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Don Carpenter; stepdaughter, Marti (Carpenter) Helm; her brother, John Baker; and step-granddaughter, Julie Walker.
