I met Gary yrs ago tractor pulling. Such a nice great guy. Discovered we had alot in common - like collecting old iron & trucking. We would cross paths every now & then. And each time the conversations were so enjoyable. He had a special piece of iron I've always wanted so bad & we always would banner it up over IT. & we eventually made a deal to trade it for a tractor, but that was sum yrs ago & he never got around to sealing the deal. I think he enjoyed the banner over it. As I did too !! And I'm sure gonna miss that & your friendship !! Thanks for always coming over to see me @ the Jamboree and coming over for supper @ I 80. Cherish memories, gonna miss u buddy !! RIP. Phillip J Koeller

I have known Gary since we were antique tractor pulling for Eastern Iowa Antique Tractor pullers. He also brought tractors to the Eastern Iowa Threshers Steam show. Our deepest sympathy to Gary's family. He was a soft spoken gentle man and will be missed.

I became acquainted with Gary many years ago enjoying tractor pull events and most enjoyed visiting with him when I'd come across him sitting in the grandstands. In past recent years I'd see him having supper at Supper at Slaby's and it was always great to catch up. He'd keep me in the loop on upcoming Pulling events. I could listen to him for hours as he shared his experiences throughout his life and knowledge of his tractors. I'll miss his smile and gentle kindness of the regarding man his was. He was truly a wonderful person. Sending my prayers of comfort and peaces to you all.

I worked with Gary when he was parts person at Farm Equipment Company in Durant. We were constantly pimping each other starting when I jacked up his orange ‘Cuda and put wooden blocks under the rear axle. I also put grease on his shifter and door handles. When he hopped in to go home and threw it on reverse his wheels just spun and his fingers were covered in grease. He got even by glueing the lid of my toolbox shut with yellow gasket glue. The dead mouse in his back seat was the final straw. I also recall his years of him driving his John Deere G in antique tractor pulls. And I’m not even going to mention the time he drove his Chevy 4x4 truck in the ditch after a Christmas party and setting the grass on fire - showing up at work the next day with a scorched beard from stomping out the fire. Good memories. Gone way too soon!
