Gene Donna Obituary

Gene Donna

January 7, 1941 - May 15, 2025

Lawrence E. "Gene" Donna passed away quietly May 15, 2025 after a long fight with Parkinson.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held in the gathering space at Our Lady of Victory from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Research Foundation or Our Lady of Victory. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lawrence Eugene Donna was born January 7, 1941, the son of Andrew and Lucille Donna in Ottawa, Ill., and grew up in the small town of Marseilles, Ill. He was involved in all aspects of high school both sports and music. Gene met Cheri (Berta) Donna during that time. Following graduation from Bradley University, they were married on January 26, 1963, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ottawa and had two children.

Gene was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed playing racquetball and golfing with buddies. He coached Little League baseball and youth football. Gene was extremely active at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and the Optimist International. The thing Gene loved the most was taking cruises, and he and Cheri traveled all over the world.

He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and his in-laws.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Cheri, Davenport; children; Lisa (Johnny) Sathre, Austin Minnesota, Mark (Stefanie) Donna, Davenport; four grandchildren, Colin Hasley, Austin Minnesota, Madison Hasley, San Diego, Calif, Kaylee (Marco) Leon, Moline, and Ali (friend Joel) Donna, Erie Illinois; and one great-grandchild, Axtyn Leon.
