Rev. Gilbert "Gib" Mueller

Reverend Gilbert "Gib" Mueller went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 8, 2022. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. A Service of Christian burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Taylor Ridge, IL immediately following the service. Gib was born in Moline, Illinois on August 8, 1931, the son of John and Olga (nee, Mennicke). He graduated from St. John's College, Winfield, Kansas, in 1953 and from Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis in 1958. Gib pursued graduate work, receiving the Master of Sacred Theology degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1967. Reverend Mueller served as parish pastor at congregations in Western Canada from 1958-1964 and in Gaylord, MN from 1967-1971. Most of his ministry was in hospital chaplaincy serving with Lutheran Institutional Ministry - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from 1971-1983 and with the Lutheran Chaplaincy Service in Cleveland Ohio from 1983-1996. Gib married Donna J. Praeuner on June 15, 1958, and the couple were blessed with two daughters, Michelle (Greear) and Starla (Bremel). After retiring from full-time ministry, Gib and Donna moved back to the Quad Cities area of Illinois/Iowa where Gilbert spent his childhood. A few years later, Gib and Donna fulfilled a long-time dream by hiking 1000 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Donna was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle on October 5, 2001. Gib later married Anne Cox in 2002 and the two continued to live in Davenport, IA until her death in March of 2012. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and John Mueller and brother Clarence Mueller and his wife JoAnne. Gilbert is survived by his daughters, Michelle and Starla (Tim); four grandchildren: Joseph Harman, Alexander Bremel, Noah Greear and Gretchen Greear; two brothers, Howard (Joyce) Mueller and Stanley (Dorothy) Mueller; and a sister, Jane Harroun (Gary); great-grandchildren: Xander, Griffin and Parker Harman; as well as other nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport or Concordia Seminary St. Louis Student Financial Aid Endowment Fund, 801 Seminary Place, Saint Louis, MO 63105.
