James P. Jones

James P. Jones passed away October 1, 2025, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House due to complications from Myelofibrosis, a rare form of blood cancer.

James Paul Jones (Jim) was born May 22, 1945, to Alfred L. Jones and Lois W. (Weber) Jones in Cleveland, Ohio. Jim grew up in Cleveland and graduated from John Adams High School in 1963 where he was Senior Class President. After high school, Jim attended The United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He graduated from West Point in 1967 with a BS in Engineering and a commission as a 2ndLieutenant in the US Army. Following graduation from West Point, Jim spent 9½ years on active duty in the Army, including a year in Vietnam with the First Calvary Division (Airmobile). He resigned from the Army in 1976.

Jim earned a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from Florida Institute of Technology in 1976. Jim married Nancy Boynton in 1967. They had two sons, Bradley and Daniel. They divorced in 1976. Jim married Mona Warnock in 1978. They had three children, David, Sara and Michael. After leaving the Army, Jim worked for Ralston-Purina in Davenport, Iowa for 2½ years as a Project Engineer, leaving in 1979. Jim then worked at ALCOA Davenport Works for 35 years (1979-2014). His career included positions as a Project Engineer, Maintenance General Supervisor, Division Engineer, Project Manager, and Chief Mechanical Engineer, retiring in 2014.

Jim is survived by Mona, his wife of 47 years, children, Bradley (Jenell), Daniel (Parm), David, Sara, and Michael (Kim), grandchildren, Sydnee, Gavin, Ruby, Remi and Isla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.

Jim loved dogs, especially greyhounds. He enjoyed the company of eight greyhounds over the past several decades. Memorials may be made in Jim's name to The Humane Society of Scott County.

Per Jim's wishes there will be no service or visitation. Cremation rights will be accorded. Jim will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
