James Santry Obituary

James Edward "Jim" Santry

March 1, 1934 - October 8, 2025

James Edward "Jim" Santry, of Mt. Juliet, TN, passed away on October 8, 2025, after a long illness. He was 91. Jim was born on March 1, 1934, in Rock Island, IL, to Edward Aloysious and Elizabeth Rosalie Santry.

A graduate of Alleman High School and St. Ambrose College, Jim was in the insurance business for 45+ years, all with Bituminous Insurance Companies. Jim began his career at Bituminous as a mail clerk while still in college. He retired in 1998 as their company president.

Jim met his wife of 56 years, Janet Jean "Jan" DePaepe at Alleman. They married in 1955, started a family and in 1961, relocated to Nashville, TN. Nashville would remain their home for many years. Upon Jim's retirement in 1998, Jim and Jan were able to spend more time in their vacation home in Gatlinburg, TN.

Jim was a longtime member of St. Edward and Holy Family Catholic Church.

Jim loved to travel, he loved sports, theatre, music, and working in his yard on weekends. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and was a longtime Tennessee Titans season ticket holder. He was also a Broadway season ticket holder at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center for over 30 years. Jim was a big fan of Frank Sinatra music. If you were in his car or in his home, you had better be ready to listen to Sinatra because it was playing.

But above all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were his greatest joy.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Jan; his parents; and his sisters, Mary Kamp and Kathleen Santry.

Jim is survived by his wife of 12 years, Roberta "Bobbie" Santry; his children, Richard (Renee) Santry, Maureen (Steve) Hughes, James (Susan) Santry, MaryBeth (Jeff) Griffin; his brothers, Thomas and Daniel (Kathy) Santry; brother-in-law, Al Kamp; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The urn-bearers will be grandchildren, Amy Petty, Megan Morris, Kevin Santry, Kelly Petty, Chris Santry, Patrick Santry, Michael Santry, and Abby Griffin, as well as great-grandchildren, Luke Manuppelli and EJ Petty.

The family would like to thank All Heart Home Care, Home Helpers Home Care, and Heart'n Soul Hospice for the loving care they provided.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on October 17, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9100 Crockett Road, Brentwood, TN.

A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m.

A private interment will take place at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
