John Buhl Obituary

John Buhl, Jr.

October 9, 1951 - September 1, 2025

John W. Buhl, Jr, age 73, of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2025, at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service will be held in Dixon Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held from 12 to 2 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Dixon American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Dixon American Legion. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

John was born on October 9, 1951, the son of John and Viola (Mosher) Buhl, Sr. He graduated from Elmwood High School with the Class of 1969. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He married Kristy Sievers on October 2, 2004, at Donavon and Lynn Sievers farm in rural Stockton.

John dedicated his career to McCarthy Improvement Company in Davenport, where he worked as a Foreman specializing in concrete work. Over the years, his steady hand and expertise could be seen in roads, highways, and even airport runways. He retired in 2014, proud of the work he accomplished and the friendships he built along the way. After retirement, John's greatest joy was caring for his beloved wife, Kristy. Together, they shared many wonderful memories, especially their annual trips to Negril, Jamaica, where they cherished their time at Couples Swept Away.

At home, John found happiness in simple pleasures, tending to his yard, cheering on his granddaughter at her softball games, gathering with dear friends to play shuffleboard, darts, and playing Euchre with his dear friends, Dean and Julia Day. In his younger years, John enjoyed trail riding and loved outdoors. Affectionately known as "Grandpa Jelly Beans," he treasured his family most of all. He was known for sharing old family stories, singing country music from his garage, and relaxing with a good Western, especially those starring John Wayne.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kristy; a daughter, Lynn Allen of Elmwood, Ill.; two stepchildren, Amber (Jason) Struxness of Woodworth, N.D. and Justin (Haley) Speth of Stockton, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Braden and Brooke Allen, Mason, Gavin and Cale Klocke, and Kynlee, Gentry and Stetson Speth; one sister, Sandy (Mike Faichney) Sheckler of Norwood, Ill.; a sister in-law, Leslie Buhl of Peoria, Ill.; and several nieces and a nephew.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Viola; two brothers, Melvin Mosher and Russ Buhl; one sister, Valerie Irwin; and one nephew, Larry Buhl.

Kristy our hearts are broken. There are no words.
The last pour was a good one, but the concrete didn't cure, sadly it cracked.
We had a great ride and we will meet again on the other side.
