John R. Schumann, age 94, passed away September 12, 2025, in Bettendorf Iowa.
John was born April 18, 1931, in Clinton County, Iowa, to John H. Schumann and Helen Ruth Sackrider-Schumann. He grew up in Maquoketa, graduating from Maquoketa High School in 1949. He served in the Army from 1952 to 1955, including a year in-country during the Korean War. John and Lois G. Lubben were married September 18, 1952, in Maquoketa. He earned both Bachelor and Master's degrees in geology and was employed as an exploration geophysicist in the oil industry for over 30 years. John retired from Mobil Oil in Dallas, Texas in 1993. He was an active member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society.
He is survived by his son, John J., daughter-in-law, Paula, and grandson, Michael; nieces, Carmen and Jodi (formerly) Cain; and nephews, Dale Cain, and Luke and Mike Lubben. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lois, on November 19, 2012; and by his parents.
Per his last requests, there will be no visitation or funeral. John was a life-long supporter of animal welfare. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please make a contribution to the animal welfare charity of your choice.
