Karen Hogan Obituary
Karen (Johnson) Hogan, age 67, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, surrounded by Love.
Born on October 10, 1957, she was the beloved daughter of Richard "Dick" and Violet "Vi" (Doddema) Johnson.
Karen graduated from DeWitt High School in 1976 and continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned her degree in education. She later moved to Texas and embarked on a meaningful 30-year teaching career. Her legacy as an educator is defined by her kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication to nurturing the growth and success of her students.
Karen's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by a son Kevin Weiss, who held a special place in her heart. She will also be dearly missed by her sister Michelle Reimler of Eldridge, Iowa; her sister-in-law Rachael Johnson of Rhodes, Iowa; and her brothers-in-law, Danny Howe of New Liberty, Iowa and Lonny Sievers of Dixon, Iowa.
Karen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie Hogan; her parents; a brother Kendall Johnson; and her sisters Bobette Howe and Diane Sievers.
Karen and Charlie shared a deep love for music and spent many joyful years as DJs at local venues and events. Both played guitar and loved nothing more than picking up a mic for a night of karaoke and laughter. Music was a constant thread in their life together, and their love of entertaining left lasting memories for many in their community.
After retiring from the classroom (EL Campo ISD), Karen embraced a new adventure-joining the team at Two Chicks Quilting in August 2019. She quickly became a mentor and friend to younger staff, always eager to share her quilting knowledge and encourage others to find joy in the craft. Karen had a special passion for teaching kids' classes, helping the next generation of quilters gain confidence and creativity.
Her love of quilting extended beyond the shop as well. Many of her former teaching colleagues were also quilters, and together they made cherished memories in her Quilting Cottage. Seeing those friends walk through the doors of the shop always brought a smile to her face.
Karen's life was filled with purpose, passion, and people. Whether in a classroom, behind a DJ booth, or gathered around a sewing table, she made those around her feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her warm smile, clever humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
