May 31, 1962-May 23, 2022
WALCOTT-Larry Robert "Bobby" Mayfield, 59, of Walcott, IA, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Friday, May 27, at the Runge Mortuary, followed by a memorial service at 4 pm. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Bobby was born May 31, 1962, in Charleston, SC, to Larry and Trilby (Teague) Mayfield.
Bobby, affectionately known by his friends as "Da Brain", in his day, played Softball and Volleyball and led his Death Squad softball team into many battles against their archrivals, The Legion of Doom and The Lampliter. Bobby loved sports and occasionally making wagers on his favorite teams. He was an avid Phillies fan first and foremost, but he also rooted hard for the Cowboys and Hawkeyes. Clemson Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks were 2 more of his favorites, depending on which one was doing better. Bobby enjoyed going with friends just about anywhere, but especially liked his trips to St. Louis for Cardinals games and to Omaha for the College World Series. Most of all, Bobby just enjoyed hanging out with his friends at the Lampliter, having a few cocktails and playing Kiss and KC and the Sunshine Band on the jukebox. When he was feeling especially festive, he would even get the disco ball going to enhance the mood.
Bobby is survived by his brother, Ken (Becky) Mayfield, Newton, IA; sister, Mitzi (Larry) Yocum, Mount Vernon, IA; brother, Lance (Ji) Mayfield, Los Angeles, CA; step-father; Fred Klavemann, Tipton, IA; step-brothers, Mark Klavemann, Davenport, IA; Larry (Colleen) Klavemann, Wilton, IA; step-sister, Kristy (Tim) Egger, Davenport, IA; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. My condolences go out to his family. Bob was a great guy and I considered him one of my closest friends starting with our highschool days at Northscott. We worked together for quite a few years and he was the best man at my wedding. Lots of memories from back in the day, from "cruising the ones" downtown, to frequenting Beethovens Nightclub almost every weekend,to the many roadtrips to Cedar Rapids for rock concerts. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed!
