Madonna R. Mackin

November 6, 1933 - May 6, 2025

Madonna R. Mackin, 91, of Davenport passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Bickford Assisted Living, Moline.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice.

Madonna was born on November 6, 1933 in DeWitt, Iowa, the daughter of Delos and Alberta (Chervenka) Kass. On May 21, 1955 she was united in marriage to Charles R. "Dick" Mackin at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt. In her earlier years, Madonna worked for the City of Bettendorf as a Dial-A-Bus driver. She later graduated with a degree in nursing from Scott Community College and worked as a nurse in various departments at the former St. Luke's Hospital in Davenport. Madonna was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf.

Madonna was an accomplished artist, primarily specializing in china painting and ceramics. She was a member of the World Organization of China Painters and was featured in the Oklahoma China Painting Hall of Fame at the Porcelain Art Museum. As part of the local chapter of china painters, she helped sponsor art classes and sold her artwork at art shows, locally and abroad.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Richard Patrick (Katrina) Mackin of Port Deposit, Md., Robert Michael (Julie) Mackin of Silvis, Ill., Shiela Ann Mackin of Reno, Nev., and Brian Christopher (Melissa) Lehan Mackin of Coralville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Mackin, and siblings, Joe, Mary, Theresa, and Paul.

Dick and Madonna Mackin were friends of my parents beginning 'way back in the early 1950s. As a young airman, Dick was stationed at Wheelus Air Field and my father was his crew chief. Dick and others on the crew were frequent visitors to our home there, and Dick, in particular was always happy to give my parents a break and babysit for my brother (about 2), my sister 7, and me, 8. We heard a lot about "the girl he left behind," his fiancee, Madonna Kass. He was rotated back to the States before we were, and we did miss the wedding, but on our way to Dad's next duty station, we stopped in Dewitt to meet everyone. In Later years, Dick and Madonna visited my parents several times, and most memorably for me, they were guests at the wedding of my daughter in 2000. I will always treasure those memories, and I am saddened at their passing. I've attached a photo of Dick, with my mother and two other members of the "Wheelus crew>" Travis Bedenbaugh and Olivier del Femine (known as Del).
