Martin Edgar Schlabach

July 26, 1949 - July 27, 2024

Martin Edgar "Marty" Schlabach, 75, passed away on July 27, 2024, in Bettendorf, IA.

Born on July 26, 1949, in Lorain, OH, he was a man of fair and just principles, profoundly dedicated to his family and his work. He graduated from Davenport's Central High School, Mesa College in Grand Junction, CO, and attended Colorado State University, majoring in forestry.

After working as a carpenter in Colorado, he returned to the Quad Cities, living in New Liberty, then Bettendorf, IA. He became President and CEO of Davenport Spring Company. One of his proudest accomplishments was providing a safe environment and living wage with good benefits for his employees. He later became President of the National Spring Service Association. Upon his retirement, he became a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, Donuts and Hammers through Edwards UCC, and Edward's Back Bay Mission trip.

He had many hobbies including woodworking, backpacking, hiking, fishing, beekeeping, gourmet cooking, collecting old books and magazines, studying history, and geneology. Marty and his family hosted eight exchange students and international individuals.

Marty leaves behind his wife and best friend of 48 years, Dr. Terry Schlabach; and their children: Kevin (Keiko) Schlabach, Erin (Adrian) Woods, and Matthew Schlabach. He was the grandfather of Emerson and Finnley Woods, Kai and Addison Schlabach. Marty is survived by his aunt, Jeanne McGuire. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dolores Schlabach; and brothers: Larry and Kim Alan Schlabach.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Edwards United Church of Christ, Davenport, IA, on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m., memorial service from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., and a gathering from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
