As a member of the IPA Board, Max had a way of bringing sudden humor with a profound message in very few words. He will be missed!

Max brought laughter to our IPA Board meetings with his dry, unpredictable humor. He had the gift of saying much, with a few confounding deliberate words; orchestrated in perfect time. He brought poems and writing to share with all. He will be missed.

My sincere sympathy to Max's family. I had the honor of spending many hours with Max in building the Midwest Writing Center into the nonprofit organization it is today. Max was our leader and cheerleader. There were so many great people willing to volunteer their time, talent, and treasure to give our community the resource MWC has become. When Max moved, we certainly missed seeing his smiling face and the hugs he gave (not to mention the bakery treats). He will always be in our hearts. If you have the opportunity there is a tribute on www.mwcqc.org

I met Max back in the 1980's via a friend when we were on a panel at WOC. What a nice, congenial person. Enjoyed listening to his broadcasts. RIP

Max made a wonderful contribution to the Iowa poetry scene, through his fine work with IPA, as well as Quad-city groups. he was also a local broadcaster. I felt fortunate to meet and interact with Max at poetry workshops. My heartfelt condolences to his family.
