Mitchel Williams Obituary

Mitchel Williams

February 28, 1959 - August 26, 2025

Mitchel E. Williams of Davenport was born on February 28, 1959, to Carole Scherz and Kent Williams. He passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on August 26, 2025, after a courageous battle against an aggressive form of cancer. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with cremation to follow. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Black and Gold attire is encouraged.

Mitch graduated from West High School in 1977. He was united in marriage to Cindy Daniel on October 16th, 1982, and together, they had two children: Heather and Chad.

Mitch was a dedicated employee at Lou's True Value and had planned to take over the family-owned hardware store prior to its closing. He then proudly worked at Deco Tool Supply for over 30 years before retiring in December of 2024.

Mitch was an avid fisherman and golfer as well as enjoying live rock and roll concerts, hunting, and attending his grandchildren's sports and school events. He also loved to travel while driving to all places, jam sessions in his car, playing sand volleyball, roller coasters, and being the life of the party. He was always cheering his kids and grandkids on in all they did and will continue to do so. He loved his Iowa Hawkeyes, a cold Miller High Life, and a chocolate malt from Whitey's.

Memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Mitch.

He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Lou Scherz and stepbrothers, Brad and Blair Early.

Loved ones to honor his memory include his children, Heather (Chris) VanCamp, Chad Williams; grandchildren, Liam and Aria VanCamp; mother, Carole Scherz; father, Kent (Julie) Williams. Also left to honor him include Cindy Williams; brother, Greg (Starla) Williams; and niece, Rachel (David) Urbansky; along with many friends and family.
