Nelson DeVol Obituary
August 14, 1930 - January 14, 2025
Nelson H. DeVol, 94, of Davenport, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at his residence.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Private family graveside services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Nelson was born on August 14, 1930, in Colfax, Iowa, the son of Jahiel and Bertha (Miller) DeVol. He married Eileen V. Marten in Bettendorf on August 28, 1954. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2020. After 43 years of service, Nelson retired from Sivyer Steel Casting Co. (Riverside Foundries) as a furnace operator. He enjoyed watching sports and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He supported his son, Michael, and grandson, Michael Guldenpfennig, in dirt track racing. Nelson was a member of the Eagle's Lodge in Rock Island and an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Chiefs, and NASCAR.
Those left to honor his memory are his children: Kathie (Herbie) Atwood, of Bettendorf, Judy (Joe) Bertram, of Ankeny, Iowa, Gary (Theresa) DeVol of Rockford, Ill., James "Curt" (Lisa) DeVol, of Davenport, Barbara (Billy) Haussmann, of Davenport, Michael (Susie) DeVol, of Davenport, Mark DeVol, of Davenport, and Glynn DeVol, of Davenport; sister, Barb Lang, of Bettendorf; 29 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; daughters: Debbie Skipton, and Linda Davis; grandchildren: James DeVol and Samantha DeVol; great-grandson, Foster Atwood; and siblings: Margaret Young, Evelyn Carver, and James DeVol.
