Norma Manning Obituary

Norma Manning

November 26, 1932 - September 11, 2025

Norma L. Manning, 92, formerly of Rock Island, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport surrounded by loving family. Norma lived most of her life in Rock Island, except for the final few years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island followed by burial at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Monday September 22nd, 2025 at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline with a recitation of the rosary at 3:30 pm. Memorials can be made to Quad City Right to Life or St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Norma was born to Cyriel and Augusta (Praet) DeCommer on November 26, 1932 in Rock Island. She married Everett A. Manning on September 29, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Norma was a member of the first graduating class of Alleman High School in 1950. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where, in addition to other volunteer activities, she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Norma was a member of the Belgian Culture Center, where she served as Treasurer for many years.

Norma attended Marycrest College in Davenport and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for a short period before retiring to raise 5 children. Later, she enjoyed visiting with customers while working at the Belgian Village Inn. Norma committed her entire life to serve her greatest loves… her faith and her family. She loved to have them near. Norma loved to read while sitting in her comfortable lounge chair… sometime we would catch her dozing off. She enjoyed music, especially big band. Often, Lawrence Welk could be heard bubbling throughout the house. A 'few' years ago, she enjoyed roller skating and a 'fewer' years ago she enjoyed ballroom dancing. Norma always maintained a calm, peaceful and compassionate outlook… her faith radiating to everyone she met. A saint walking among us, and now in heaven, rooting for all of us. We were blessed to have known and loved her.

Survivors include her children (spouses), Gregg (Marti) Manning, Pittsford NY, Paula Maddox, Moline IL, Therese (Merle) Wiese, Bettendorf IA, Shawn (Karen) Manning, LeClaire IA and Kelan (Lori) Manning, Dubuque, IA; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and her sister, Leona Marie, Moline IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister (spouse) Lorraine (Jack) Reasoner; brother-in-laws (spouses) Cleo (Gretchen), Leo (Truth), Bernard (Betty), Eugene (Norma) Manning and Richard Marie; sister-in-law, Eileen Leaf and granddaughter, Rachel Wiese.
