Patricia Krewer Obituary

Patricia A. Krewer

March 8, 1928 - November 4, 2024

Patricia Ann "Pat" Krewer was born in St. Louis, Mo., on March 8, 1928, to Harry and Thelma (Hall) Steingrubey, and grew up there and near Maeystown, Ill., with her seven brothers and sisters. She met her husband, Gaillard, when they were 16-year-old students at Valmeyer High School. Pat earned a teaching certificate and spent several years teaching in one room country schools and Catholic grade school. Pat and Gaillard were married on June 17, 1950, in Valmeyer, Ill., and lived in Illinois, Missouri, California, Kentucky, West Virginia, and New Jersey before permanently settling in rural Blue Grass, Iowa.

Pat was extremely passionate about Girl Scouting, acting as a troop leader, service unit director, trainer, Board member, and national delegate. For her efforts, Pat was awarded Girl Scouting's highest honor for volunteers, the Thanks Badge. Pat enjoyed socializing with her lifelong Girl Scout leader friends, whom she affectionately called The Biddy Committee. Her immense collection of Girl Scout uniforms, books, and accoutrements will find a home in a Girl Scout museum in Knoxville, Tenn. Pat touched the lives of countless girls through her volunteer work.

Pat is survived by her children, Dr. Keith (Cheryl) Krewer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kathy (Tom Flaig) Krewer, Orion, Ill.; Mary (Steve) Godwin, Blue Grass, Iowa; and Trish (Steve) Wilger, Bettendorf, Iowa; grandchildren, Emma Light, Matthew Krewer, Rebecca Krewer, Nathan Truninger, Malhon Godwin, Emily Godwin, Samual Godwin, and Ian Wilger; and great-grandchildren Natalie Luchman, Cody and Kailey Krewer, Scarlett Schultz, and Jackson Truninger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaillard.

Pat was a devoted wife and mother, and a loving and fun grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed antiques, quilts, nature, and traveling. She also enjoyed listening to Big Band music and Frank Sinatra. She loved to laugh and kept her playful sense of humor right up until her last moments. Pat passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024. The family would like to thank the staff at The Fountains Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice for their tender care and respect for Pat in her final weeks.

A private service was held with interment at the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial donations in Pat's honor may be made to Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Trish and Family,
In honor of a lady who had a life well-lived, I'm sending my condolences to you for your loss.
I will never forget the haunted house in the Krewer basement for your birthday. Your Mom thought of every last detail, and it was superb. This is a lady who made many countless memories for many people. She will always be with you.
