Richard Walter Snyder was born July 2, 1952, in Davenport, a son of Walter and Helen (Saville) Snyder. He graduated from Assumption High School, class of 1971.

A lifelong resident of Davenport, a devout Catholic, and a member of Holy Family Church, Dick was a beloved member of his communities. He was an incredibly hard worker and a grocery store utility clerk, handling everything from bagging groceries to accepting deliveries. He worked for over 30 years for Eagle Food Stores, and then another 15 years for Schnucks. Born with significant medical issues, Dick overcame all obstacles and rarely ever missed a day of work.

Dick was a passionate fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and he enjoyed watching classic sitcoms. Most of all, Dick deeply loved his family, including his cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews, as his vast collection of photographs attests. Dick never missed an opportunity to send a hand-written Christmas or birthday card. Dick truly was one-of-a-kind and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Deborah Snyder of Rock Island; niece and nephews: Thomas (Lisa) Snyder of Denver, CO, Martin Snyder of Chicago, Julie (Jeff) Snyder of Maplewood, NJ, Stephen (Miranda) Wilson of Franklin, TN, Bradley Wilson of Rock Island, Grant (Sudeepti) Snyder of Chicago; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: William and Thomas.

I remember Dick from when he worked at Eagle's on Locust and then Schnuck's. He was always so friendly and positive. What a hard worker. If you looked up 'customer service' in the dictionary you would probably see a picture of Dick. May perpetual light shine upon him.

I am so very saddened to hear that Dick has passed away. We worked together for nearly 3 decades at both Eagle stores on West Locust. He was such a kind and caring person, as well as, very conscientious and dedicated to doing a great job. I remember the pride he took his car, owning his own house and his little girl, Daisy. I´m positive they are together and watching baseball. Prayers to his family.

I worked with Dick for many years at the former Eagles at Lincoln and Locust. He truly was a great employee and could be counted on to help with anything necessary. Deepest sympathy.

I had the pleasure of interacting with Dick many many times in my role as a salesman calling on Eagle stores & later, Schnuck's. Dick was unfailingly kind to me, and I looked forward to running into him whenever I visited the stores where he worked. My favorite thing was getting a smile out of him-the trouble was he rarely stood still long enough for me to catch up to him! My heart goes out to all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

I shopped at Eagles for years and I would always chat with Dick. He was such a sweet kind man. My condolences to his family.
