Roger Meachem Obituary

Roger William Meachem

November 21, 1939 - April 18, 2025

Roger William Meachem, a brilliant mind and a cherished soul, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at the Clarrisa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

He was born on November 21, 1939, in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, England, to Arthur and Margery (Picton) Meachem.

Roger's journey through life was marked by love, intellect, and a passion for the arts and sciences. With a Master's Degree in Engineering, he dedicated his professional life to design engineering, where his creativity and precision left an indelible mark. His career was a reflection of his commitment to excellence, solving complex problems with innovative solutions.

On September 21, 1982, Roger married Cilla Meachem, in San Jose, Calif. Their union was a beautiful partnership filled with love, laughter, and mutual admiration.

Survivors include his wife, Cilla Meachem of Princeton, Iowa; son, Andrew (Kirsti) James Meachem; and daughter, Lesley Anne Ronald; his sister, Elaine Phillips; and five cherished grandchildren, all residing in England.

Roger was a multifaceted individual, known for his passion for coffee as a true connoisseur. He roasted his own beans and proudly earned the nickname "Roger the Roaster." Music was central in Roger's life and his passion, he was a talented percussionist, who especially enjoyed the vibraphone and played many other instruments. He was a member of the award winning Barbershop Chorus, The Hartsman. He loved many forms of music but particularly enjoyed descriptive pieces including, "The Stripper," "Carmen Jones," and "Padstow Lifeboat."

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Roger was an instrument-rated pilot, whose adventurous spirit led him to the skies, where he experienced the world from a breathtaking vantage point. His zest for life and thirst for knowledge inspired those around him to embrace their passions and seek joy in every moment.

Roger's life was not without its challenges. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Malcolm Meachem. These losses instilled in him a deep appreciation for the time spent with loved ones and the memories created throughout the years.

As we remember Roger, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, music, and an unyielding spirit. He touched the hearts of many and left an enduring legacy of kindness, creativity, and resilience.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Roger's generous spirit and love for humanity.

Roger William Meachem will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Always enjoyed talking to Roger. He led a full and interesting life. I was extremely grateful to have known this kind man. I was touched when he would bring me some of his roasted coffee.
